‌‌‌‌‌University of Galway is committed to supporting staff undertaking educational programmes to enhance their professional and personal development. This commitment is in accordance with the strategic aims of the University to maximise the potential of staff, to support the recruitment and retention of staff and ensure a positive commitment to equal opportunities.

Supports include:

  1. FEP (Further Education Policy)
    • A funding programme to which staff can apply for support when undertaking a part-time programme of study
    • A certain number of courses will have fees waived for staff. Applicants should apply to their course of choice first, before applying for FEP support – to ensure a space is held on your chosen course. Once FEP funding has been approved, the staff member can then confirm their place on their course
    • Applying for a course and applying for FEP funding are two separate processes. Approval for FEP support does not guarantee a place on a course
    • Certain programmes have a limit on numbers so may operate on a first come/first served basis
    • Please note that the course must be a minimum Level 6 as per the following National Framework of Qualifications

Please be advised that FEP does not cover course registration fees or student levies.

FEP Scheme and Application forms

We have not decided the opening dates for FEP applications for 2025/26 yet but they will be the same timeframe as below. We will also be sending an all staff email prior so staff are made aware.

The FEP scheme 2024/25 for New and Continuing FEP Applications offically opened on Thursday 04th of April and closed on Friday 17th of May, for the academic year 2024 - 2025.

The FEP Policy QA130 is available to view or download in English here or as Gaeilge here.

Please ensure you have all the signatures at the bottom, provide your job spec, and a link to the course. If you are using Chrome the new application word document won’t open. It is an ongoing glitch. Simply open it in a different browser.
