Accredited Irish Language Course for visiting students 2021-2022

The aim of the courses below is to give basic knowledge and understanding of Irish to students who have no prior knowledge of the language.  Through these courses, the student’s communicative skills will be developed to enable them to interact through Irish in a range of basic everyday situations.
 
All courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, Level A1-A2.

All Classes will be held in Áras na Gaeilge, an Irish-language centre on campus, that functions through the medium of Irish. Áras na Gaeilge also has an Irish-language restaurant. All classes will be held in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Course materials are included in the price.

The 5 & 10 ECT Courses begin the week commencing 17 January 2022 but you must first attend an information session in Áras na Gaeilge at 2pm on Monday, 10 January 2022.

Irish for International Students 5 & 10 ECTs

17 January - Beginning of Term
23 March - End of Term
28 March to 31 March - Study period
1 April - End of Semester Written Examination: 10:00 am to 11:00 am (for 5 ECTs) and at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon (for 10 ECTs)
1 April - End of Semester Oral Examination: Begins at 11:30 am (for 5 ECTs) and at 12:30 pm (for 10 ECTs)

You must contact us in advance if you cannot be present for the end of semester exam. No other examination dates will be organized for students except in cases of illness (a doctor’s certificate must be provided).

Your Choices are as Follows:

A) Irish for Beginners – 5 ECTs (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System)
Module Code:  GDT 101.2

Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge is offering an Irish language course aimed at students with no prior knowledge of the Irish language, consisting of one 2-hour class per week. This class will focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Assessment Procedures
As well as continuous assessment, course participants will sit an oral and written examination at the end of the semester.  Students will also be required to complete 5 assessments.

Registration & Fee

Registration details will be taken at the information session and a fee of €30 will be payable in Room 103 Áras na Gaeilge to cover course materials.

Provisional class times are as follows

Tuesday 10 a.m. – 12 noon in Room 104
or
Wednesday 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  in Room 214                                                                                                    

B) Irish for Beginners – 10 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System)
Module Codes: GDT 102.2+GDT 103.2

Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge is offering an Irish language course aimed at students with no prior knowledge of the Irish language, consisting of two 2-hour classes per week. These classes will also focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Assessment Procedures
As well as continuous assessment course participants will sit an oral and written examination at the end of the semester.  Students will be required to complete five assessments during the course.

Registration & Fee

Registration details will be taken at the information session and a fee of €60 will be payable in Room 103 Áras na Gaeilge to cover course materials.

Provisional class times are as follows:

Monday 11.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. in Room 106
and
Wednesday 10.00 a.m. – 11.00 am - Room 106, 11.00 a.m. – 12 noon – Room 206
